Collection: Silver Lining Series

Even bad situations can sometimes have a silver lining. The task is to find it. In this YA/NA series, Katie Charles tells the story of three young women who have faced unique hardships, and how they find their silver linings.

Amelia MacDonald lost her mom, and she and her Da have to find a new future with just the two of them. They move to Brooklyn, where Amelia finds herself in a life she never imagined. It's hard, but she quickly finds friends who bring her into their circle. There is still more to lose, but she may just have longtime friends in them. And with Drake, perhaps a lifetime.

Jamie also lost those she loved. At just ten years old, she is left an orphan and in the care of her childless-by-choice aunt and uncle. She grows up knowing they preferred she wasn't there, so when she turns 18 she takes control of her life. Which included going to college. She has an image in her mind of what a perfect family would be, but she finds happiness when she realizes picture perfect isn't always perfect. She makes friends with two roommates, one of which she thinks must live the perfect life. And one whose family isn't perfect, but it's a good life.

Lori was diagnosed with CRPS - a chronic pain disorder with no cure - when she was a teenager. She was accused of faking it for attention. So when she went to college, she intended to hide her pain. At least as long as possible, because inevitably the day would come when she couldn't. She wanted to be Lori first, her disability second. She makes friends, and a special friend in Dylan. When she can't deny her condition any longer, she waits to see what he will do. Who he will be. And he is everything she needed.

Life may not be what you expect, but with the right people, you can find that silver lining.
